Message from District Governor Jeff Yong for The Month of July 2019

Monday, 1 July 2019

Welcome you to the new Rotary Year 2019-20. I am indeed filled with enthusiasm to embark on a new milestone in my Rotary journey as your District Governor.

Rotary International President Mark Daniel Maloney’s theme for 2019-20 ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD, explained his vision for building a stronger Rotary, calling on leaders to expand connections to their communities and to embrace innovative membership models.

As we begin the year, let us reflect on Rotary Vision statement, “Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves”.

In Rotary, we take action, because we are the people of action and because we are not a dreamer but doer. We work to create lasting changes – change for the good of mankind.

My focus for this year is to grow Rotary and support Rotary foundation.  To grow Rotary, we need to carry out impactful projects so that we can tell our story to the public and our communities.

Therefore we need to involve our community leaders and/or partner with Government agencies for our service project and to strengthen our communication and publicity to attract new potential members.  Membership is the heart of Rotary and foundation is the heartbeat of Rotary, therefore, the Rotary foundation is equally important to Rotary.  We are distinct from other service organizations because through Rotary foundation, it enables us to do amazing transformational things that others simply cannot.

Rotary’s success and its strength does not come from individuals, but from team effort.  Rotarians, as ordinary people do extraordinary things. We MAKE A DIFFERENCE, we INSPIRE, we CONNECT, we LEAD and we DO.

Therefore, we must grow our membership by adopting flexibility, innovative and thinking out of box approach. With more inspired community-minded members, we can do much more, to make the world a better place.

As Rotarians,  we should constantly connect to our communities and youth by leading and/or partnering our service projects with them so that they can be inspired by us to build a new generation of Rotary leaders.

Looking forward to a great Rotary year with you all.
